I am probably wrong, but I believe the jagged line on the canopy (it's actually red) has something to do with helping the pilot's depth perception when looking up.

Actually, I think it's part of the system that breaks up the canopy prior to the seat rocket firing on ejection...

As FP said, its a line of explosive that breaks the cockpit open a fraction before ejection.
