Someone asked about Starship, an outgrowth of the Jefferson Airplane, with Mickey Thomas, who I shot last week at the casino. They also had "Special Guests" (always loved that expression) Eric Troyer from ELO and Doug Fieger from The Knack.

That's Mickey Thomas in the middle, lighted like an angel, Eric Troyer with his hands raised clapping on the right and Doug Fieger clapping on the left. There are a few more images from this concert at my website at http://www.dwightmccann.com …sort/Starship06252005.htm (external link)

Thanks, Bottom ... these were shot with my Fuji (due to 70-200mm droppage noted everywhere I've posted, sigh) and Nikon glass. Hopefully I will get a 100-400mm L on Friday to shoot Lyle Lovett with that night ... not as well suited as the 70-200mm but the lighting is so good at the casino I'm hoping it'll be OK. I do have, and will take, my 300mm f2.8 just in case.

I meant to say that Mickey Thomas is really magnificent! I spent most of the concert sitting in the front row with my jaw in my lap. He was as good as it gets for this style (whatever it's called!) with amazing control and range and oddles of (drug induced?) personality. So, come on out here, stay at my place, and go to a couple of concerts with us! :-) [Say, that BottomBracket isn't a sexual thing, is it? ;-)a]

Hahaha! The bottom bracket is my favorite part of the bicycle - it is where the crankarms (those long things atteched to the pedals) are attached and embedded inside the frame. Thus it is largely unseen but endures more stress and torque than any other bike part.

Thanks for the generous offer, I just might take you up on it one day. We (wife and son) might go on a trip to California sometime to visit friends and family, who knows I may be near where you are at, and perhaps you have a shoot at that time ..... It's a long shot but it may happen! In the meantime, I'll wait for those Lyle Lovett pics.

Doug Fieger, brother of Geoffrey Fieger.
Great pics, was a huge fan of ELO.

Bottom, so all those things in your .sig are bicycle related, eh? I have a specialized moutain bike and a Giant roadbike ... since my quadruple bypass and the casino gig I haven't quite gotten back to riding as much as I once did although I try to ride up my training hill (no big deal) each weekend day. I'll expect you when you arrive! :-)

Dwight, if your 100-400L doesn't make it in time and you want to borrow mine you're more than welcome to...if I can tag along :)

Surf, where are you? I thought you were down around L.A. and your girlfriend was in Lompoc? If you are up here we should get together ... you never know what opportunities may make themselves available. If nothing else I could use a lesson or two on the 20D! :-)

I live in Lompoc too but I probably wont be the guy for a lesson on the 20D. I just picked mine up and had been playing with the 300D for a few months before that. I'm still a newbie to the DSLR world but as soon as this next semester starts I'll be taking some photography classes.

Anyway, I'd love to meet up with you some time when you're shooting (doesn't need to be at the Casino). The best way to learn is from people who have been doing it for a while.

Surf, email me at Dwight at DwightMcCann.com or dwight.mccann at isc.ucsb.edu and we'll get together ... have you two over for dinner or something ... if we don't like each other we'll just go back to the way it was before! :-) I missed the flower festival this year ... did you shoot any or is it a case of 'same old, same old' when you live there?

Just checked tracking on the 100-400 and 20D and they were apparently delivered today ... have no idea why nobody mentioned it to me, so I guess I'm set!

Hi Dwight! Actually the first group at my sig is about bikes, and the second is about coffee, which is another hobby of mine (I'm a micro-roaster). I'm glad to see that you're fine after your bypass, all the more reason to get on your bike(s) and pedal away :) Those are nice bikes by the way. I'll see you when I see you! :)

Aha! Bottom, Yes, I'm sorry I couldn't remember the models off hand ... the Specialized was about $2k and the Giant about $1200, but I did a lot "in trade" work and got them both for about $1000. We have a fairly well known annual Century here (Solvang) and it is also one of Lance Armstrong's training grounds ... so there are bikes everywhere, all the time, riding through the vineyard areas (we also have a lot of wine tasting) and up the foothills. I don't think we have any special coffee areas! :-)

57, Thanks! I have a lot of threads here, but given size restrictions I would urge that you go to my website and check out the Chumash Casino Resort section.
