Free from Hasselblad: Phocus 2.0 You have to put in the serial number for your Hasselblad. ;)

PhotoByte - business automation software is now free.
http://zimberoff.com/photobyte.htm (external link)

PhotoByte was called "essential gear" by American Photo magazine and "a self-teaching course in business management" by John Retallack, Professor of Photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Outdoor Photographer magazine wrote, "PhotoByte brings profit and convenience to a photographer's profession."

It has been endorsed by dozens of top-name shooters in the photography world.

PhotoByte is such an important tool that it was selected by Allworth Press for inclusion in the first college-level textbook about the business side of photography, Focus on Profit, by Tom Zimberoff.

Enblend and Enfuse (external link) are two open-source CLI-based multi-platform tools for photo stiching and HDR, respectively.

I've only tried Enfuse (for HDR) and it works well.

XNView is a free viewer with some categorizing / cataloging and editing tools. So is the FastStone. Both these and IrfanView show CR2 previews.

Good thread. I only use DPP and free programs. But then again, I only do minimal PP.
Works for me.

Ain't nothin but a thing.

The current Windows Live Essentials come with a basic photo editor, at least the Beta does.

(Apparently MS ICE based panorama stitching - ICE is very good)

Phocus 2.5 is available for free now... and you don't have to have a Hassy to get it. Just hit next on the registration page and it will get you there without entering a serial number.

But can you run it without a serial number ;)

Or maybe its a glitch? You don't know.

No serial number needed and Hasselblad intend you should be allowed to use it. You just have to register with the site and confirm when booting the application. No Hasselblad kit needed.

It does seem to. It also seems to be little known.

Can DPP be considered free?

Isn't it available only via CD - if and when you purchase a canon raw capable p&s or dslr?

Well, you can install it using a variety of possible workarounds -- check out this site:

http://www.northlight-images.co.uk …stall_canon_software.html (external link)

But, the question of using it with a Canon Raw file is definitely a valid point -- DPP is a Raw processor, not a full-featured photo editor. If you are not working with Canon Raw files you can get more mileage from something like Elements (not free) or, for free, Picasa or something similar. Yes, you can use DPP with jpegs or tiffs that don't have "proprietary" things going on, but you will miss some of the functionality that you get with Canon Raw.
