Couple o ski shots from this morning

It looks deeper in the pics than it felt skiing it.
First one is iso 320, 53mm, f/4.5 and 1/500sec. I had to bump it up 2 stops in PP because it was too dark. I should have shot overexposing 2 stops today, but I only had it set one over.
Second one is iso 320, 35mm, f/4.0, and 1/500. I had to bump this one up one stop in PP. It also was shot at 1 stop to the right.
Not the greatest shots of all time, but I do feel like my ski shots are improving which is good, especially since it was snowing and blowing up there this morning. I'm beginning to think, patchy sky with occasional sun, overexpose 1 stop, cloudy snowy day, overexpose 2 stops.

edit: these were taken with a Canon 40d and the 28-135 is lens. Cheers!

Nice shots, and nice pow! We've been skiing hard pack for way to long after an epic start to our season. No snow in the forecast.

looks better than it was. This stuff was south facing so underneath the 8-10" it was C r U s T y! We need another big storm like last week.

Just checked the avalanche center website, should be getting up to 6" in the cottonwoods tomorrow

Okay, I don't ski downhill so please educate me. Number one is a good shot ... why? Not a good time skiing, mind you, a good photograph. What's the subject? Can't be the skier ... you can't see him!

Some sports photos are just not meant to be appreciated by those who don't participate. A good photograph will draw emotion from the viewer and anyone who likes to ski powder is VERY drawn to a shot where the skier in the photo needs a snorkel.

Granted this may not be the best deep powder shot I have ever seen but it makes me wish that was me in the photo.

So to answer your question - the skier (or the fact that the skier is mostly missing) IS the subject of the photo.

Not every photo will appeal to 100% of the audience.

yeah you kinda have to be a skier to appreciate that
into the face pow is the epic holy grail of skiing
and this picture captures such a face shot we all dream of

But if it's going to be deep, it needs to be steep.

You would definitely have to be a skier/snowboarder to appreciate a lot of these photos. When I shoot up at the resorts the photos I sell the most of are the ones where you can barely see the skier/snowboarder.

I do a fair amount o touring, but I wanna expand my shooting environment. ie: more picture shooting.
