Nice indoor walkaround!

Last one has a lot of "drama" to it. Are those cobwebs on the static wicks in #3? :(

Yes. Same aircraft as in picture #1 and #4. It's a Hawker 700 and hasn't been airworthy for over a year. Although they are repairing it to fly again so it can be sold.

I was invited back to their facilities so maybe some night this week I can take what I learned from that shoot and improve.

Maybe they'll move some things around for you as well?

This would be a blast with some good lights both outside and inside the aircraft!

(shakes head at own hangar shots...)

How did you shoot these? (lens, f-stop, tripod, etc.)

Trying to get my hangar shots up to this level (if I ever can...)

Thanks!

The first four shots I don't really like at all, even though the hangar was well lit, the lights were very high and just didn't provide anything to my liking. The last three shots I really like, my favorite being the prop shot of the King Air. This hangar was very dark except for two overhead lights on above the aircraft, which proved to be very dramatic.

This being my first time ever shooting in a hangar, it has really got me looking into buying some strobes. I went in shooting in the dark (pun intended) as I really didn't know how to approach it and what settings to use. I think having properly set up lighting is key here for getting good results out of a hangar.

My gear was a 24-70L and 10-22mm. A tripod was a must, shutters were very slow, around a half to a full second at times. I kept the ISO down to 100 to keep the noise low in the shadows, apertures I kept around the area of f/8. I don't know if I'm doing it right but thats what I did

^^^ Okay - a tripod, and of course, lighting.

I just looked at my best hangar shots and yes, the ones where the hangar spots were on part of the a/c are the best. I had my Olympus E-420 and an old MF 28/2.8 lens which is okay at ISO1600. I'll have to use that with a tripod instead to get it down to ISO100, or a Canon with the larger sensor if I want to handhold it at higher ISO...

Thanks!

Seeing how the interior of that hangar is a pretty stark white, you shouldn't have any issues with bouncing light in there.

You'd get the effect of a ginormous soft box when doing so.
