Lens Repair in Chicago

Can anyone recommend a trustworthy and affordable repair shop in Chicago to take a look at my lens? I've never had to take anything in before.

A speck/small piece of something has appeared in my Canon 50mm 1.4 lens and I can figure out what it is. Doesn't look like fungus from what pictures I've seen online, and it's not just dust. It looks like a small piece or shard of glass and has a slight amber tint to it.

Now that I know it's there it's driving me crazy!

It's currently my only lens and I can get my p&s camera to focus on it, otherwise I'd post a pic.

Does it show up in your images? Looks like a chip in the front element or something.

Honestly, if it's your only lens, I'd just hold on to it and shoot with it if it's not showing up in your images. Whatever it is, chances are that the lens would have to be taken apart. To do that, most camera shops will just act as a middle man and send it to a Canon Factory Service center. You can do that as well and get a "free estimate" of how much it would repair to fix, but as I said, I'd only do that if it's showing up in your images.

It does sort of look like a glass chip. You might try giving the lens a slight tap on your palm to see if you can dislodge it.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I would send it to Canon directly. I've used some of the retail outlets in the past and they simply forward to the factory. You're probably going to be close to the repair price point where you should either use it as is or get a new one.

It's not going to show up in your images, and if the lens is not exhibiting any problems I'd just leave it alone and live with it.

Thanks for the replies!
It doesn't move when I shake the lens, could it be some chip of internal adhesive or something? It's inside the lens- strange because I baby my gear. It doesn't show up in pics.
I'm just worried that it's the start of fungus of some sort....
