Well, this is just my personal opinion, but I don't think he is in focus. I think your lens front-focused and that's why he's not as sharp as he could be.

That is not your opinion, it is fact. His left hand is in focus and if this is your prime example then I wonder what results you expect?

Also, 1.6X crops are not the same as 1.4 TCon. Tcons magnify and crops, well crop.

im upgrading my library from the event 138 gb. so I can open the original and pixel peep need to be sure it was not front focusing. anyway that is not the point.

I was wondering if I will get sharper images with a 1.6 crop camera vs using a 1,4 tc in FF - nothing to do with photographic abilites - just plain which gives a sharper result

because i thought i had sharper images with my 200mm and a tc....

But it is... You're doing all this because you thought the 7D didn't give you sharp pictures. If a little micro-adjustment would have fixed it, you went through a whole lot of trouble for nothing.

My money would be on the crop camera.

edit: thats cr.p then I cant get a 1dmk2 or a 40d - because they dont have MF abilities... need to send lens and camera to sigma... would they be able to do it on 2 bodeis forex the 1dsmk2 and the 40d without screwing up the 1dsmk2 which is good with the lenses i have at the moment...

Well, it may work fine on those bodies.
But why not get a 7D again? I think the AF and drive speed would be great for Golf?

As for the pictures you got, a little USM will clear them up nicely...

cheers, thing is that sometimes there is not time for usm, it goes in and out rapidly. but yeah looks better.

well im not made of money.... if i were id get the 7d again.... so its down to the 40d or the 1dmk2 or a tc - the latter being ALOT better for the wallet..... however it might have to be a 40d.

yeah its not gonna work, but on my screen i dont see too much front focus as an issue - this is 100% at jpg5 - only way to get it up here. so its not really even useful anyway im pretty sure that most on here have suggested crop camera over Tc - lets see what itll be...

You goota keep in mind that something like 88% of posts that say I am not happy with the sharpness of my camera/lens posted here turn out to be operator "error."

based on my experience with 5D and 50D plus 300L2.8 + TC1.4X and TC2X.... definitly
5DMKII+300L2.8+TC1.4X rather than 50D+300L2.8 ...
I am think to sell my 50D even half price .. in no case, I can get same IQ as 5DMKII .. I was 1.6 factor would be a good point .. and it's not!!! comparing to high iso's, sharpness, Bokeh ...
