Hello

I am at a vball tournament without my manual. Need help. My 1d3 is not hitting 10 fps in servo mode. It's fine in one shot. But it lags in servo. Shooting m1 Jorge to extreme iii cards. Any thoughts?

What lens are you using? If the lens can't keep up and you've set it to get focus before taking the shot it won't take 10 fps.

Try setting C.Fn III -3 to 1 or 2. 2 is the strongest, it will take shots at drive speed rather than waiting for focus at all, 1 will focus the first shot and then shoot at the drive speed without waiting for focus on subsequent shots. Note that this will give you some out of focus shots.

One shot only focuses the first shot in a burst of course so it can always keep up.

There are a bunch of things that can impact the 10 FPS. My guess, since you said you're shooting volleyball, is that you have ISO cranked.

The exact wording out of the manual is:

* The single image size, number of possible shots, and maximum burst during continuous shooting are based on Canon's testing standards (JPEG quality:8, ISO 100, Picture Style: Standard)

* The single image size and number of possible shots will vary depending on the subject, memory card brands, ISO speed, Picture Styles, etc.

Next Page:

! * At high ISO speeds, the maximum burst will greatly decrease

TaDa, high ISO affects the maximum burst length but since mattograph says ONE SHOT shoots 10 fps fine I don't think it is a maximum # of shots problem. AI SERVO won't be as fast generally as ONE SHOT since it needs to adjust the focus between shots, UNLESS you adjust the custom function I listed above C.Fn III - 3 to give full priority to the drive speed (which means some out of focus shots). If you use a slow lens it will definitely affect it and poor lighting can also make the focusing slower but again if you give the drive priority it will give you 10 fps no matter how OOF they are...

Thanks guys. Cfn III - 3 was the culprit. I was set for focus/
tracking.

Is this camera cool or what. I totally love it.
