So I shot my son's 6th grade basketball team last two games of the year with my new 24-70 f2.8L and I think it all finally came together for me. With all the help that I got in this forum and the Talk forum on lighting and lens choice I am really happy with the results. I know I need more practice and so I was kind of sad when the choice was made by all the team parents not to do the tournement this weekend. This team won it last year and was the team to beat. But kids and coaches were sick, parents were tired and the cost was a bit too much at this time with people out of work and all. Too bad, but I understand.
Anyhow, I think I did my best work to date and look forward to next season. I'm hoping that by the time my son is playing in HS (two years from now), both his skills on the court and my skills off the court will be much improved. My keeper rate for these last two, back to back games was way up. I credit that to the new lens and to my practice with it and all the other games up to this point.
Anyhow, on to the images.
Fast Break points!
There's no stopping "Baby Shaq!" The other team's coaches came up with that name for this kid. He's a truely gifted kid, both athleticly and in the class room. And his mom buys lots of prints!
Superman!
Halftime speech. The kids came out and finished off the first time that night.
After the speech, my son started gobbling up every rebound that was near him. He dominated the boards.
A little Sky Hook action? No Tip Off for the second game. The kid in Red had no chance.
Hitting the breaks! The defender in this case actually almost hit me as he rolled onto the floor and landed at my knees. I dusted him off, helped him up and he ran off. The kid in white scored. The next time down the floor, the same kids did the same thing. This time the kid in red din't trip as bad!
A hard foul. Toward the end of the game the other team tried to do what they could to stop our boys. It wasn't enough.
In the end, I had hoot of a time shooting boys basketball. I know I'll be able to sell some images to the parents. They are all really excited to see them online when I get them posted to another site I have. Then, I'm hoping that the orders will come in.
Again I'd like to express my HUGE THANKS to all that helped me and others here work out the issues of shooting indoor sports with strobes.
It was a fun season and I can't wait till next year! Soccer is next for me. That starts next month!
I forgot to put this in the title, but please any last comments would be appriciated!
