Sorry! And yeah, that's about enough of the ambient light bball pics anyway.

What is yours in for? I just got an inside contact at Canon and have contacted her about my centerpoint only focus issues. Did some explaining of the issue and sent some pics. Long story short, I may be giving mine up to Canon after basketball season concludes in couple of weeks.

Here's hoping yours comes back in perfect shooting condition!

Hi Dave - to cut a long story short AI Servo focus not working in any mode, despite trying everything. Plus high noise at low ISO much worse than my 40D.

I am viewing these on a laptop, but the skintones seem off to me. Very Cool. When I put the eyedropper on the white uniform, it shows more blue. Am I wrong?

Yeah, they're a bit cool! Shouldn't have hit the 'auto color' during the finishing process. They were a bit warmer and the first shot the guy looks almost GRAY! Bad move. Live and learn and agree with your assessment.

Dave, its been great watching your progression. These look very nice. A touch cool to me (and I tend to prefer on the coolish side) but I wouldn't say its extreme by any means. Face looks a little soft on #4 (although my eyes suck so keep that in mind), otherwise, great job nailing these at f2...not easy to do.

Thanks for the kind words. Now that the 7D is behaving using the centerpoint expanded focus mode, it's a lot easier to get well-focused shots ... even at 2.0! And yeah, I've come a long way since last season! To the point where it's so much fun shooting the games I can't wait for the next oppty to shoot the boys.

On the processing I agree with you. Not my best job on this batch!. It was Senior Night and I had about 150 shots to process. Had WB dialed in then at the last minute hit the 'auto-color' button and probably ruined them!

Thanks again for looking and commenting Scott.

Wow, that's not good. Hopefully Canon is able to sort out the issues, put in some new parts and deliver your 7D in perfect working order. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

You definitely got the focus issue out of the way. Nice job Dave.

Thanks Joe! I'm going to give centerpoint only another try now that I know it's not ME screwing up the shots! I can do this because some typical crowd shots and the floor from the stands shots are needed for the school's presentation at the end of the month.

If those don't work with centerpoint only, I can reshoot them with the same expanded focus mode that produced this round of action shots from the game.

Still learning the 7D!

Just received an email confirming that Canon have agreed to replace my 7D body with a new one which I'll apparently receive before this weekend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this one will live up to the billing and some of the examples on here.:)

Good for you! I hope they test the body thoroughly and make sure the new one is perfect before sending you a new one.

I've definitely had my share of issues with mine. It may be going back to Canon in a couple of weeks as well. No reason why the centerpoint only focusing mode doesn't work properly in AI Servo ... it just doesn't!

All the best for getting a GREAT 7D copy from Canon. Can't wait to see some shots from the new box.

Many thanks Dave. I've 4 football matches within 7 days from this Saturday so it'll be well tested. The trusted 40D will be there just in case.

Thanks Ferds. Appreciate the look and reply. I'm really enjoying shooting basketball this season with the 7D. No NR necessary shooting as ISO 2500. Gotta love that!

Nice shots Dave. The home gym I shoot in is only 3 years old and I thought it had decent lighting, but I have to shoot at ISO 5000 to get 3.2. Maybe before next season I'll be able to get a 1.8 lens and be able to drop my ISO. Even at 5000, I don't really have to use NR, but I usually apply a little.

Again nice shots and your focus looks good to me.

Wow, that is pretty awesome. I already have noise shooting at 1600 with my xsi. Great pics, man.

Your focus is spot on in these shots, are you using back button auto focus or the conventional way (half pressed shutter button) to focus? Peter

Peter,

back button for sure. I still hold the shutter 1/2 way down so the camera is instantly ready when focus is achieved and I'm ready to shoot.

Still struggling a bit with the 7D and it's focusing nuances. It seems to only focus accurately and regularly on the centerpoint expanded focus mode.
