Some people like to look for nicknames for lenses, perhaps this would be a good and fitting nickname for the 10-22mm. Not sure about the turd part, but it sure is overpriced compared to the magnificent Tokina 11-16mm 2.8. When you charge more than your competitor, you should have a faster lens with a better build and better IQ. But the Canon loses in all 3 catagories. Go figure.

The canon blows the Tokina out at 10mm, and 17-22mm. Just saying ;)

Canon figured that if there is a "Canon" on the product, they can sell! And they have been selling.......

I was in your same boat. After looking for a while i decided the tokina is the best. Waited two months and finally picked one up here on POTN brand new last week. Used it indoors and wow! In a dim bar setting. Trust me that 2.8 allows you to expand your shooting capabilities when flash is not an option. If you need range go with the sigma as the canon lense is too pricey.

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D

In comparison to the canon 10-22, the tokina is more like a f/2.8 prime. Very short zoom, but a fast aperture. The Canon has a larger flexibility, but if you need the speed for low-light conditions, definitely go for the tokina.

I myself have the tokina and imo it's a real keeper. Very solid built to, feels and handles a bit like an L-lens ;). No experiences on the 10-22 though.

The Canon 10-22 is an overpriced turd.

I guess it is. A turd couldn't do this. http://www.flickr.com …0/sets/72157623143104436/ (external link)

Even though I'll recommend the Tokina over the lens I own, it's obvious nureality is a huge fanboy since he posts the same garbage comments in every thread like this.
