This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #259".

This contest ends at 7:00pm EST Wed 17th 2010 (or London time: 00:00am GMT Thr, Feb 18th, 2010)

===============

This picture has been taken few weeks ago when snow started to melt and caused river Avon (West Midlands - UK) to overflow.

Lets see how you can edit it :)

I will post a link to RAW file once my connection will no break when im uploading it to yousendit website

Good luck and have fun!

Nik Silver & Color Efex filters - tweaked holga preset + heavy glamour glow in color mode.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

B&W conversion

Duped layer and added a Gaussian Blur on the background layer

Top layer sharpened and then masked out everything except the sign pole

Crop (I wanted to crop tight 5x7 ratio but please forgive me if I was influenced a little by Sandstrom's crop ;) )

Not many contestants this time. Maybe I have chosen very hard picture for editing. However:

Kolor-Pikker: - great conversion, good colors, mood and also I love how you added viggenet to this photo. I cant see anything bad about it so its not crappy! :)

Sandstorm: - Looks like a painting and combined with great crop actually it looks outstanding :) The path and trees mix well together and you have shown us that there is much more to see from this simple photo.

blslvo: - I can see you have chosen to create an old style photo however your conversion is too bright (here on my screen). Its hard to tell if you could get something better out of this photo because it seems to that this picture is hard for editing anyway.

Palladium: - intresting B&W conversion and good crop however i think post looks like it was placed from another picture (I know it ment to be like that but it doesnt look real to me).

The winner is: ............... Sandstorm!

Congratulations and thanks to all of you!

Can wait for next B&A :)

...again - good work!!!

Nice work Sandstorm (and everyone else!).

I start a new job Monday (after 13 months of unemployment + self employment), so I hope I can get back on steady keel and play a bit more.
