For those of you that have your camera with you or in you car all the time, how do you keep your batteries charged? Especially those who keep their cameras in their car in the cold weather? I've been thinking about hooking up some battery chargers in my trunk so they will stay charged, but I wanted to see if anyone else had a better idea.

P.S. I have a Pelican 1610 that is full, so taking the cameras inside every day isn't going to work. And 6 camera batteries and over 30 AA are cumbersome to move around as well.

I find the lithium batteries hold their charge no matter the conditions. But I will still bring it inside every few days to charge it. That is, when I used to carry it all the time. I no longer do. I think the extreme cold or extreme heat that can build up in the trunk of a car is not the best thing for electronics in general.

Neither is the humidity in Alabama, rain, snow, sand, dirt, and mud, but sometimes it happens :-)

I don't carry my DSLR with me all the time, however I do keep a camera in the car in case I come across an alien spaceship or some other photo op unexpectedly.

My "keep in the car" camera is a Canon S5 IS which takes AA batteries and I keep single-use lithium AA batteries in it both for temperature extremes and long shelf life (wouldn't want a dead battery when that spaceship lands on the highway in front of you  ). I figure with the primary batteries and the long zoom range of the S5 I can probably get an acceptable shot of whatever comes along.

My camera is almost always with me, which is why it comes inside with me. I just keep a spare battery on deck in case I need it.

If you must know...

I found a compact camera car charger at the Apple store. I haven't tried it yet, but supposedly you can charge your camera battery while you drive.

I had a dickens of a time getting the correct exposure on the spaceship-those blinking lights will drive you nuts. And the aliens just hate flash.

Thank God Bigfoot is 18 percent gray, makes for a perfect exposure every time!;)

My camera is with me 24/7, so that means it is inside when I am inside. I wouldn't want my baby to get cold !! ;)

1) Start a photo website.
2) Take your camera with you everywhere.
3) Write off mileage and gear purchases.
4) Profit.

Does it keep it charged well? How many miles do you drive a day?

It appears to work well; I've never had a dead battery while using it.
I drive 19 miles each way.. but this is plugged in all the time.

I also have a 150 Watt true sine wave inverter for powering my laptop; but I don't run that unless I need more power than just recharging 1 camera battery.
