I guess we are all striving for that ultra sharp image. I am using a 400D with a Sigma 70-300 lens, not the best but we all have to start somewhere.

So the question is what internal settings do you have in your cameras?

I have mine set on landscape, should I push the sharpness to the max? I usually sharpen most of my images after, can I do both?

It is better to shoot RAW and do your sharpening in PP, try to keep the ISO as low as possible commensurate with a decent shutter speed and aperture, compromises have to be made usually. When you say you have it set on landscape do you mean the preset zones. Most shoot manual or Av

Everything I use to shoot was in jpeg and I always got caught up in which camera body has sharper images, and which setting s are better. Now I just shoot in RAW and figure it out later. It is highly recommended.

However if you just love to shoot in jpeg please include what camera you use since they are not all equal in the jpeg world.

Doesn't he say he's using a 400D?

When I had the 450D I generally used shutter priority Tv with a speed of 1/1000 plus or minus. The higher shutter speed helps to freeze birds which often are on the move. Larger birds such as herons you can generally afford to use a slower shutter speed. I found on the 450D that there was very little difference between Raw and JPG. Now with the 7D that is not the case.
