Thank you for the explanation again. Sorry to see the tragedy in Norway and hoping you and your family are ok.

Just amazing photos!

Thank you. They are best seen live :) Even the time-lapse movies doesn't do justice to the real Aurora. Here are some time-lapses from my fellow photog friends:

Hello ArcticShooter,

Long time no asking questions. Recently, I am very interested in learning/doing timelapse for Aurora Borealis. Have you done time lapse for Aurora? Any suggestion?

Just want to share a few time lapse videos including Aurora Borealis done by Norwegian photographer, Terje Sorgjerd.
http://player.vimeo.com/video/22439234 (external link)
http://vimeo.com/21294655 (external link)

My lifetime trip to shoot Aurora Borealis in Alaska is nearby. I will have 7D for my travel. Hopefully I have some presentable photos to share.
Norway, Iceland, and Finland are great places for shooting Aurora. One day, I will visit you guys and go hunting Aurora together. I think that will be very cool!!
Are you using facebook? Let us know. We can learn from each other.
Peace!!

Yes I have done some time lapses:
http://vimeo.com/22091640 (external link)
http://vimeo.com/18800641 (external link)

I will re-edit these since I don't have any overlap/cross transition in between each image
Making time lapses of the aurora works best IMO on fast exposure lower than 8s
Since the light is changing so much.

But the slow moving ones can also be great.
You just have to get up there and shoot as much as possible!

In the mean time take a look at my friend Ole's time lapse:
http://vimeo.com/21419634 (external link)
He will have some of his work in a National Geographic show that will be shown next year.
He will also be in an IMAX movie about the aurora..
IMO he does the best time lapses of the aurora.
But he has also worked his butt off with these

Thank you Arctic Shooter for sharing your time lapse video. They all are amazing to me. Lucy you live in Norway. I will definitely visit Norway in future. Could be sooner if I win the lottery. Ha.
Sorry about my stupid question. What is IMO?
I pray everyday and hoping the weather is not rainy. I even notice that there were some cloud in your video. I guess it depends on where the aurora display.
