Yeah I do. But I prefer the Samyang 14mm since it is so wide :)

Thanks.

I just figured the 1.4 max aperture would allow you to shoot at a lower ISO that's all.

Sometimes 1.4 gets to fast. The vignetting is also high. So I normally step it down 1 stop or so. But it's great to have the 1.4 since I can actually get auroras at under 0.6s and really get the spikes when it's really active. Last night the aurora was so wide that I needed the 14mm. I tried with the 24mm but it was too narrow. Also the snow was blowing around me so instead of messing up my L, I used the cheap one :)

Thanks again, Helge. Much appreciated, and very helpful.

I hope to photograph the Aurora one of these years...most likely from just outside Whitehorse in the Yukon.

Will likely be shooting with either the 1D Mark III or 1D Mark IV, so I'm thinking the Canon 16-35 or the Samyang/Rokinon etc 14 f/2.8 will likely be the lenses I will be using. Maybe perhaps even a modified Canon EF-S 10-22. I just want to use the lowest ISO possible. (How can you tell I'm an old slide film user? )

I think you should be well covered with the 16-35 on either of the cameras. I am selling my copy of it since I have only been using the Samyang and my 24mm
With the camera choice that you have the ISO could be at 3200 without any problems. And if you choose a fast shutterspeed you will see the needles on fast moving auroras. Otherwise you get the regular green band

Articshooter,

Could you give me some settings advice based on my setup of a eos 5d classic and a 17-40 f/4L lens? I know it will vary but just as a starting point to see what I get if I see the aurora on my trip

ISO 800, 10s and f/4 and adjust from there :) Good luck
