My gear list:o

20D
Sigma 150mm macro
Canon 28-105mm
430EX ll

Another thing, my fiance is willing to help me get the 5dmk2 if I wait till after march.

Casual shooting

Usually just take pictures of family, friends, and the pets I keep(geckos, frogs, and fishes). And during warm weather months go to the park and take a few pictures of flowers and whatever is interesting.

Thanks

Wow. Tough break man...

I'd sell the 20D + 28-105... I'd get a 5D and a 35/2 or 50/1.4 - i'd get a general prime lens to match the 5D for casual shooting.

What is it you feel is lacking right now? Are you not able to snap fast enough for fast moving family and friends? Not enough reach for the kinds of shooting? Not enough cropability?

I think it's always better to address these questions by saying "I would have gotten that shot if I had...instead of what I have now"

Without any other info, I'm inclined to just say 40d or 50d and some more glass...

and slowly save up for a new body later...

Get a lens or two and then lean on your future spouse for the 5DII. You're only talking about a few weeks and a great lens will be great on that body.

I echo Merlin. What would you like to do that you can't now? Is image quality a problem for you with your 20D? Do you have enough reach for kids sports? Have fun searching.

Keep the 20D and use it until you can possibly get the 5D2. I might sell the 28-105 and buy a Tamron 28-75 2.8 just so you have a fast walk around, and maybe a 50 1.8.

I believe full frame w/ the lenses I suggested will up his image quality more than buying a $1200 lens for the 5D. I don't want to start an argument, but thats how I feel. You could also spend the money on a 5D classic and then buy some better glass with the money that your fiance is willing to help out with. That would probably be your best bet.

I would wait for the 5D-2 hands down. The high ISO capabilities/low noise on the 5d-2 are out of this world. With fast glass u could throw your flash out if you really wanted.

Thanks for the great responses everyone

I take pictures of my 5 month old son almost every other week and sometime when my family ask me to bring my camera along to family events, such as birthdays etc.

I have been wanting video option to capture videos of my son so now I'm starting to think if I should get a 7D or Canon EOS Rebel T1i instead.

When the 7D was first announced, I envied one for the video feature....but the more I thought about it, I realized I still need to hone my photography skills before dabbling into video.
