Hi All

Great day out by all, by the look of things.

Some great pics on here already.. The below are taken with a 40D ( just upgraded first time out ) and a Canon 70-200 F4...

#1 - This could have done with a lower shutter speed here I think

#6 - Thought I would put this one in, I know OOF a bit but though it was good to show the same shoot as Simon but how by having great colour and composition it makes for such a better picture.

I like the rear view shots. I am a sucker for the "stopped dirt"

The rooster tail shot of the Subaru WRC is great! Would be fantastic if the red glow from the gauze inside the exhast was lit up too but even without this it captures 'rallying' really well!

Hi Alan,

#4 is a nice shot and compositionally pleasing. I would've cropped or cloned the intruding orange arrow out of the frame though.

With #3 and #6, I would've liked to see them slightly lower in the frame - they look a little too central / high up in the frame to me, IMHO of course. Don't be afraid to use the other focus points that your 40D has to give you the composition you want. Having said that, it doesn't stop #3 in particular being a very nice shot of a very nice motor!

Hope to see you out again across the season. Now that we've 'met', we'll be able to say hello next time :LOL

Simon.

Cheers Simon,

So next is it worth getting lower as you did and I will try the lowest focus point... so is #4 about right ?

What shutter speed do you normally run with on these shots #3 & #6 ?

What is on the cards next for you and Geoff ? Malcolm Wilson Rally ?

Alan

#4 is spot on in my opinion.

For a 3/4 shot like those (an the ones I posted in my thread), I would tend to use a shutter speed of 1/320s to 1/250s.

What's next? Well for me, I definately won't get to the Malcolm Wilson due to a family birthday. I think my next outing will probably be a run down to Oulton Park on the 27 March. In fact, it will probably be the Trackrod in September before I'm back out on a rally.

Cheers,

Simon.

Think I was running with 1/200s must off the day and started to think it was a bit to low...

I am thinking off having a run over to Malcolm Wilson rally ( mam and dad have a static caravan just up the road from Greystokes )

Have you been to any off these stages ? what have you found to be the best ?

Alan

The stages in Grizedale are superb - some of the best in the north of England - BUT they only use them once, and it's a long way to go to just see the cars once.

I've only been to Greystoke once, and as a stage it wasn't bad at all. They also use the stage twice. Biggest problem for us last year was the car park. They'd been testing WRC cars in the week prior to the rally, and the car park used some of the roads they'd been using. It was like driving on the moon.

I don't know the other stages I'm afraid.

Hope this helps.

Simon.

Arrrgggghhhh Greystoke!!!....the very memory of driving into that place in a car i'd only bought the week before makes me shudder even now.

If the entry for the Malcolm Wilson is decent i mighthave a run over but if i do i'll go to one of the early stages then shoot over to Grizedale later. Other than that it will be Race Retro or the Border Counties before i'm out again. :)

I'm liking #4 out of this lot too. As Simon has said, 3 would have been a lovely shot if the car was a bit lower in the frame :)
