For BIFs I prefer HH, for bird on a stick shots, wimbreley is nice. For shooting shorebirds etc, I prefer skimmer. Fuji XT-1, 18-55mm

If I am handholding I find it easier if the hood is reversed. I often use it on a monopod and rarely on a tripod apart from hide work. 1DIV -- 40D -- 12-24mm f4.5-5.6 EX -- 17-40mm f4 L -- 24-70mm f2.8 L -- 70-200mm f2.8 L II -- 100mm f2.8 Macro -- 300mm f4 L IS -- 500mm f4 [COLOR=red]L IS -- 1.4 II -- 580EXII x2 -- 430EXII

I use mine hand held most of the time. Never on a monopod (for reasons listed earlier in the thread) and occasionally on a tripod with a Wimberley gimbal. Birds are typically hand held ... mammal critters are on the tripod when possible. Bob
