Honestly, I gained very little in making the switch other than some great new AF features and AF point controls I really like. Image quality wise, the 1D3 does everything the 1D4 can do. Even at high ISO the 1D4 isn't that much better than the 1D3.

High ISO performance is definitely a stop or two better than the Mk III, and that's handy for me when I shoot indoor sports. I like having the extra megapixels because I tend to crop a lot. I like having the video capability even though I probably won't use it all that much. Of course, I still have my 1D3! Cameras: 1DX, 1D4, 20D, 10D, S90, G2

Shooting indoor sports, I can shoot in manual mode with the aperture and shutter speed I want and let the camera choose the ISO for the right exposure. Outside, I can shoot in Av mode with the aperture I want and let the camera choose the shutter speed and ISO, knowing it won't choose a shutter speed too slow for the lens I'm using and will bump the ISO instead to get the right exposure. I think it should use the higher ISOs if you enable them, but it doesn't. Of course, being able to shoot at ISO 102,400 doesn't mean you should! It's kind of a novelty and cool to be able to get *something* in near darkness, but I'm not sure how useful it will be. Cameras: 1DX, 1D4, 20D, 10D, S90, G2

No. Just wish I hadn't sold my 1D3. ![]() Thanks for the feedback, good to hear Canon 5D Mark III | EF 24-70 f/ 2.8 L II
