I have so many photos from my travels that it's virtually impossible to pick one for the contest. I kinda like this one even though it's not technically advanced in any way. What do you reckon, would it stand a chance?

I noticed that the colours got a bit too saturated once I uploaded the pic so that will be corrected before (and if) I submit it.

I'm not really feeling it. You are at the discretion of the judges when you submit to something like that. Often times they are looking for something other than a creative and well exposed photo. Often times they just want a cliche shot that fits their needs. This one says "headless body on a deck chair" more than it does interesting travel to me.

Perhaps you are right, it's hardly the most interesting travel photo ever taken. But if they're looking for something cliché then it might be just right, who knows.

Actually I was thinking this was far away from cliche' as you were at least reaching for something. By Cliche I was thinking palm trees in silhouette against a sunset.

Much better. Cliche's get started for a reason. Great sunset shot.

I think the sunset shot would be far better without the ugly rock in the foreground.

I was aiming to create an interesting foreground but you are entitled to an opinion, Roy. In retrospect I think I should have tried to capture a close up of the woman and the pier as I'm quite fond of that part of the photo. Hard to do anything about that now though.

Here's a crop for those of you who don't like the original version with the rock in the foreground.

Keep the rock. I think it adds perspective

If the main subject is the sunset and the female, then the rock serves no purpose even if the intent was to put something "interesting" in the foreground. Perhaps if it was on the side, it would have not been so distracting, but it's right in the middle and that's a dominant feature in the frame.

Perhaps crop it out wide...?

Otherwise I agree, A very beautiful sunset! :)

The first image doesn't do it for me either. You've got the upper torso of the female cut off, and the left side of the sky is blown out.

Just my opinion...

That's true, Nick, cropping it wide makes it look like a panorama and it still retains much of its original quality. My idea was actually to capture an interesting landscape shot so I wasn't even aware of the woman util I looked at the photo on my camera.
