Hey, Battle Ground's a nice area -- I need to get up there sometime in the Spring to see if I can find some wildlife around the lake.
As far as shooting Raw+jpeg, the one time when I've advised it is when you are just starting to explore Raw and can use a jpeg as a "reference" as you are learning to work with your Raw processor. If using DPP, you have the advantage of having Picture Styles which do a reasonable job of matching the in-Camera Picture Styles and so they would actually be more "efficient" than shooting Raw+jpeg. I shot a few Raw+jpeg exercises when I was starting out but quickly abandoned the effort because I didn't like the clutter of jpeg copies.
