I am in a fix, I have been using the RAW for last few years but interstingly enough whenever I tweak the RAW I find it interesting. I am using DPP for my RAW conversions and I shot few portraits a couple of days back, my default settings of picture style is set to Landscape as I shoot mainly landscapes, all the settings in the picture style are set at zero.

I selected Portrait and found a very different result than what I am getting on landscape. I need to know what picture style you use and what impact does it make on your photos and what is the best way of selecting the picture styles.

Mine is left on "standard" then I can change in post. I do mostly landscapes.

Although it is very much a matter of personal taste, I think that Landscape can be disastrous for portraits. Although it boosts saturation primarily in blues and greens, it pushes the reds also and this can be bad for skin tones. However, I don't like what Portrait P.S. does to skin tones either - too red/pink. There are two additional Picture Styles available for download on the Canon site, Studio Portrait and Snapshot Portrait I think they are called, and IMO the Snapshot (despite its offputting name) is not bad.
In general, I don't care much for the default Standard either because it pushes up saturation. I prefer to determine the amount of saturation myself, suiting it to the subject. For this reason I use either Neutral in artificial light or Faithful in sunlight and raise the saturation. This is especially true when I work in Lightroom where I can use the Vibrance adjustment that I much prefer to Saturation.

Landscape - but only for the effect it has on the preview jpg on the camera LCD: I don't process the files in DPP, so it doesn't matter.

Can you kindly let me know from where to download the additional picture styles as I don't like the tones that portrait is giving me.

I use "Neutral" (or "Camera Neutral" in LR2) about 90% of the time. If not more.

I always use neutral. I click on the others and check them out but I always go back to neutral.

may be a lame question... but... do pictures styles matter when shooting in RAW?

Faithful, because I always shoot in RAW and don't want any excess processing throwing my histogram off whilst I am shooting.

I'm going to set all the parameters to how I like them, in post, later anyway.

Theoretically, no. They don't actually alter the RAW data.

However, they DO matter if you use your histogram when shooting. The histogram is based on the jpeg preview (which IS affected by picture styles) and so can be significantly thrown off by using a strong PS.

Some RAW converters will also use them as a starting point so, if you like a particular PS, then setting it will give you a head start in conversion.

Thanks for the link, I have downloaded.

Is there anyway that I can include them in DPP permanently.

No, each time you want to use one you have to click the 'Browse' button and navigate to it.

Although i shoot RAW with my 40D i have it set for Snapshot Portrait. No idea why as i know it doesn't matter but its a good starting point IMHO.
I find standard can blow the reds out and ive noticed a loss of detail in things like red jumpers.

While you cant have them all loaded in DPP, if you use one in camera it does get transferred with the RAW file.
