Thoughts on keeping Canon 10-22 lens

I'm really debating on whether or not I want to keep my Canon 10-22 wide angle lens. I don't seem to get a ton of use out of it. I would say the majority of the time my 17-55 Canon lens is plenty wide for the pictures that I take. There have only been a couple of times where I pulled this lens out for certain landscape shots. Am I missing some of the usefullness of this lens? It's a nice lens but if I only am going to continue to use it rarely I'd rather get money out of it and put it into another lens that I may use more.

Anyone else have this dilemma before? Will I really miss this lens? Thoughts?

Thanks.

I use that lens mostly for travel photography in cities. It also is good inside buildings.

I would say, if you want the money, sell it. If you find that you are missing it, you could pick up a Tokina 12-24. Almost as wide, but, at least in my area, about half the price used as what people try to sell their 10-22's.

A year ago, I traded my 10-22 straight across for a 17040L. Mostly because I'd upgraded from a 40D to a 5D2 and the EF-S lens was useless on an EF body.

Haven't regretted it for a split second.

You can pry my 10-22 out of my cold dead fingers. Or I'll trade it in when I go full frame. Whichever comes first.

But, then again, I am kind of a wide angle whore. ;)

I love it. When I buy a FF, I'm planning on keeping my 50D with 10-22 on it at all times (or most of the time)

I use it for astrophotography, but that's about it. I don't like the distortion you get below about 15mm. I would definitely not miss selling it too much.

My 10-22mm lives on my camera. It will not be sold as long as I own a crop body.

I hardly ever used my UWA - I didn't find the focal length very easy to use and didn't enjoy it. My 17-55 covered almost 100% of my needs and I never felt that I gained anything extra in my photography with the UWA. ............... Then I went FF!!

I think you basically answered your own question.. You dont use it much, and the 17-55 covers what you need usually.

I say sell it, and get something more useful for what you photograph.

it sounds like there isn't too much need for the 10-22 for your type of shooting...

I borrowed a 10-22 from a friend for a day and merely confirmed that it's a special-purpose toy. My 16-35 lens is plenty wide enough on my 20D for anything I need to do. I don't care for the ultra-wide "look" in my photos. Thus, I'll never buy a 10-22. I may even sell my 16-35 if I migrate to a 1Ds platform in the future, as with that it would become an ultra-wide lens. With it on the 20D, it's a very practical wide (but not ultra-wide) lens for me.

It doesn't have to be used in a way that accetuates the UW "look". Then there are shots that are just not possible without one.

Here are 3 shot at 17mm on a FF. That's 10-11mm on a crop.

I love UWA... but if you don't use it whats the point of having it? Explore other type of photography... I see you have a macro and a telephoto. What about TS lenses or longer lenses for birds, wildlife etc? Or maybe throw that cash into a workshop and explore something else you might like.

I have the 10-22 and just today purchased a 15-85 also for my 50D but I will never sell the 10-22. I don't know how experienced your are but if I were you I'd give more time to think about. If in time you feel the same way then like others said no use in keeping a lens your not going to use.

There have been many here who thought they didn't need a certain lens in their line up and went ahead and sold it only to regret it down the line.
All I'm saying here is think about it a little more. Good luck to you in what ever you decide.
