I doubt this will happen and the price would double what the original is now I think. There's a lot of doubt after reading all the comments. What's your take?

Something like a 15-55 or 15-60 2.8 would be nice, with improved optics and build, and latest gen IS. That said, a 17-55 f/2 would be very interesting, though probably significantly larger, heavier, and more costly than the current 17-55 2.8. Alex | flickr

Would probably kick off with an L-series one instead, and, once that one has been refined, the technology will trickle down to company's standard EF and EF-S lenses. Nifkin Puffoon

A f/2 zoom in an EF body especially if it also had IS would put the brick to shame. It would be a huge lens, but the smaller glass requirements for the EF-S form might make the lens about the size and weight of the current brick. I doubt Canon is working on it, there are so many other EF-S lenses that make more sense like a EF-S 100-500 smaller and lighter than the current 100-400 EF, but it sure would be interesting. Not sure why, but call me JJ.
