I like what you tried to do in the first image with the rider at the drop in and then on the rail but it looks like he is almost standing still and squatting on the rail. Maybe a different angle, slower shutter to show some movement or being on the front side to see his face would have worked better. Keep shooting!

Without a doubt it is easier to get an impressive sports picture when you are shooting truly impressive subjects. I do some mountain bike event photography and for some reason... the shots of the guys who are world champions always seem to look better than the average Joe out on the course. 1DxII, 5D3, 6D
