I like the original better because the sheds stick out in the color picture more than in the b&w.

Maybe playing with the exposure in the colour version might make them stand out a little more.

Edit: Is that just sheds or more?

hope you dont mind i adjusted the exposure a bit and then added a vignette. This allows for a bit less clutter and more focus on the subject. When the photos don't have much contrast (the antlers are the same shade as the grasses) its sometimes works to add a bit of vignette.

I do not like the vignette. Software added ones rarely look good.

You are heading in the right direction with the edit though...a little less clipping of the shadow tones maybe.

My first thought exactly.

Looks like more to me. I know that the DoT and the highway crews around here, take the deer that get hit on the road and they have this one location.

It is quit macabre, but in that location, they dump all the deer bodies. Like a deer mass surface grave. O.o

Thats what I thought after further inspection but I didnt want to say it. Its common around here, but figured it wasnt for everyone.

Thread is properly titled. I just got it. I am a little slow today.

I like the original black and white. It makes you have to figure out what you're looking at instead of just saying "look what I found".

I don't like the other poster's edit. It has deep blacks and white whites and the subject is a nice middle gray. Why change it?

Mostly agree. It could use a tad bit more clarity...but it is minor, and the edit was a major change. Not necessary IMHO.

I think you should stick to the color version. There are shots that work in black and white and there are shots that simply don't. The ones that are most successful have a lot of contrast, texture, detail and, ultimately, are very simple and uncluttered compositions. This particular photograph has too much going on and there is too much that is overexposed with no detail at all (most of the snow). As a result, there is no real point of interest. The little stumps (or whatever they are) towards the center are not enough to hold a viewer's attention, in my opinion.

Failure is always an option.
