Hey folks

I'll be coming to Denver (Westminster to be accurate) at the end of March maybe early april. I'm bringing my gear and looking for some wildlife to fill some images.

I'm thinking RMNP but not sure if its a good time to go there? If you have any better ideas for someone who likes BOP and other assorted wildlife please feel free to chime in.

Thanks in advance.

I think RMNP is a great place to photograph a wide variety of wildlife, but I must admit I've not been there in March/April. The elk will have shed their antlers, as well as the Mule Deer. The Moose have already shed. Of course, you can still enjoy photographing them - and get some good images to boot - even when they don't have their antlers.

There should be lots of songbirds at that time. There are always colorful Magpies about. Ground squirrels will most likely still be in hibernation. The park has a decent population of Wild Turkeys on the east side, and they should be in their mating season at that time, so you may be able to capture some strutting displays if you're patient and lucky.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Thanks Tom appreciate the info. I suspect I'll take a full day and sit in the park waiting for something to wander by.

Still trying to find eagles and owls too but I'm happy with anything interesting.

The large animals (Deer, Elk, Bighorn) will be all over the park on the East side. With exception of the Bighorn the Elk etc will have shed and their coats will be quite ragged. You will not be able to go over Trairidge to the West side where the Moose population is. However you can go to the West Entrance and get in to the lower part of the park. If you have the time and like to shoot scenics you could take a trip to Moab about 5.5 hours and shoot Arches National Park. Its a great time of the year for that area.

By all means, go to RMNP, but avoid the weekend.

Here's a link to Colorado's many excellent state parks:

St. Vrain State Park is a short drive from where you'll be and boasts a bustling blue heron rookery.

Despite the lack of antlers, there'll be a new crop of youngsters out for us all to see.

No need to drive a long ways for wildlife and scenics, but do plan on being at your objectives at sunrise for some stunning imagery of pink mountains and brilliant skies.

Thanks dc! I always plan on being early.

RMNP seems like a can't lose location for just about anything.
