^ If this was my S, or any car, I'd re-edit and remove the license plate info.

Always appreciate these oldies Doug.
This is a beauty and very nice to see the interior detail.
The workmanship in these is excellent and a credit to those restoring them.

You capture them very nicely.

Thank you, Richard! Those folks really restore/re-imagine classic autos beautifully. :-)

I'm sometimes surprised on how well that lil' Fujifilm S1 bridge camera does.

I've always been a big fan of the first-generation MINI - ever since the news and the sneak-peeks of this car came out. Like most car models as they evolve, the MINI esthetic and concept has really been diluted, IMO.

I was fortunate to sit in on a talk given by Frank Stephenson, the lead designer for this project for BMW, in which he talked about his process for this car, as well as others. He had some great stories!

As an admirer of the original Mini (of course) it was pretty cool to hear that Stephenson did not just start from a clean sheet of paper; rather, he went through a rigorous thought-exercise. Knowing that the design was essentially unchanged since 1959, he imagined and sketched out a series of changes as if the Mini had gone through a typical product cycle over the decades - so, he designed a mid-60's version, an early 70's version, and on, until he arrived at the early 2000's version.

Thanks for the background on this fantastic creation, TustinMike!
This was the first auto that I build to order. (3 month wait)
I monitored its assembly online, including travel via ship across the pond, then loaded on a train from a port in South Carolina.
Took possession in January 2005 and have loved every one of the 165,000 mile (so far) since.
The dealer keeps trying to by it back from me for a newer version-that's not gonna happen!
Some things just stay perfect just the way they.

Here she is in current times:
Cheers!

Mine has a 1.6L overhead cam (OHC), 16 valve inline 4-cylinder engine (115hp), 5-speed manual Getrag transmission.

Here's a little more background on R50 for you.

Mine was "post facelift".

A book I put together of a clients car collect for the client. I have posted some of the images but this is the way I wanted them to be presented. It is an AMAZING collect of American cars.

All shot with Leica digital Ms.
