I already posted this in the 'nifty fifty' thread as that is the lens I used, but then came across this sub-forum and thought it appropriate. Hope this is OK to double post!

Playing around with some different lighting options / ideas tonight I came up with these:

1. Lit with a handheld flashlight with a paper towel diffuser. ISO 400, f/6.7, 30s.

2. Lit with a red laser pointer diffused through a paper towel. ISO 400, f/2.5, 30s.

3. Lit with a handheld National PE-201M flash (I have had this flash for about 15 years!), Set camera to bulb in a dark room and fire the flash manually below the subject. Flash diffused through a paper towel and opaque plastic box. ISO 100, f/4.5.

I had a lot of fun playing around with this, there are more in the series here (external link)

Comments and critique welcome and appreciated.

The WB in 1 seems a bit off and the red doesn't really do anything for me.

I like the lighting of 3, it brings out the different colours of the base material nicely.

Nice looking little bike. I'll have to try the red lazer idea. I just happen to have one here. :)

Thanks for the comments. What do you mean by the white balance seems off, not sure what you are basing that on. The wall behind and the sheet I used underneath are both a type of cream color...

I take your point on the red, it really is a lot of red. I should try doing something different with it to make it more interesting.

I like the 3rd one a lot too...

Thanks again
Dave

Yeah, I got the idea from another post on saw on the forum somewhere. I need to get a green laser pointer too. Maybe able to do something interesting with different colors of laser from different directions.....
