Does anyone have any opinions on buying lenses from Amazon.com? Are they at the same level of dependability and service as B&H?

Jon.

I found no difference in the quality or dependability. I purcahsed my Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro USM from them and it was exactly the same as the one at the Camera store here - but less expensive. Besides they give you different store that you can purchase the lens from - including B&H.

Make sure you are buying from Amazon and not a marketplace vendor.

I buy most of my gear on amazon. Only other places I use are Adorama or B&H.

Adorama is one of the vendors that Amazon uses. Sometimes the Amazon price is less, sometimes more. I have Amazon Prime, so shipping is usually free and that makes it worth going through Amazon. I have never had an issue with Amazon. Yes, the warning about going through Amazon with a vendor with a cheap price is real. Don't do it unless they are highly rated. If you are not sure, ask here in marketplace. We can help. I just ordered my 7D through Amazon. It came beautifully packed and in perfect condition.

Yes Amazon is a sure bet most of the time; like Suzie said above you want to avoid some sellers that charge exorbitant shipping and the low rated ones.

Amazon Prime is a godsend - free two-day shipping on Amazon items and 3.99 for overnight per item. I've purchased too many stuff from Amazon because of the prime...

My husband is amazed how many boxes we have in the garage after a month from Amazon. I don't shop at stores anymore. :)

I love Amazon. Fast shipping and a good return policy. I've been using them for 11 years and have been very happy.

Prime is awesome.

Amazon has excellent service. I got an 85f1.8 from them that back focused, and they sent a replacement before getting the return. It went out as soon as the return was logged into UPS.

If B&H didn't exist, I would buy from Amazon all the time, as long as it is Amazon and not an affiliate through them.

The only affiliate I maybe would be OK with is Adorama.

Amazon returns are a breeze. No reason not to buy from Amazon.

Amazon is great. I have Amazon prime which costs $79 a year but gives me 2 day free shipping on whatever I order through them. Half the time it arrives at my door the next day! Their 30 day return policy is twice as long as BH so you can try stuff out for a few weeks then return it if its not for you.

Many times when I order early in the week and before noon, the item comes the next day with Prime. That's true. UPS is much more dependable to my area than Fed Ex.

I have spent literally thousands of dollars with Amazon over the years. Never had a problem.
