Finally some snow in the Front Range mountains of Colorado.... meaning two of the most fun days I've had skiing all year. Let's hope the snow continues!

Here are a few pictures from Monday at Loveland- it sure is nice to have President's Day off for once.

Those are really cool. I have a granddaughter on the Loveland race team so we are up there most weekends. I guess we should have gone on President's day, but we took the day to do something else.

What equipment was used to take these?

I used my Canon 30D (not listed) and the Sigma 18-125 OS lens. I'd like to get something a bit longer like the 70-200, but I can't justify the expense right now.

Man, those are nice shots!

I don't mean to highjack the thread but Smmoken, would you say that the Sigma 18-125 OS would be a better choice than the Canon 28-135?

Personally, I think the 18-125 is a much better lens. I had the 28-135 originally with my 30D and never really liked the wide end. 28mm just isn't enough on a crop body. I also think the Sigma focuses faster, and the lens is built better as well. Sometimes when shooting skiing I find myself wanting another 20-30mm on the long end, but ultimately I'll get something like the 70-200 or 70-300 to fill that gap.

I think the problem with the 18-125 OS HSM lens is that there aren't many out there, and there's not much information on them anywhere (especially here).... so people automatically gravitate towards the Canon offerings. I've been really happy with the Sigma, and as you can see, the image quality is pretty nice!

Fantastic shots! Looks like all you need now is a lens with a longer reach.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of getting that specific Sigma lens & yeah, these pictures are making me pull the trigger on it.

Really awesome shots, Smmoken!

I'm so jealous of the nice snow you guys get out there. Here in the east coast it's icy and sucks to ski/snowboard in.

love these and wow is my jealousy stoked. I miss skiing there so much, been way too long. I think the lsat image is your strongest. color, exposure, timing, focus, its all there. The only thing I'd suggest is your composition. Maybe this can be fixed with a crop but I really think this one would benefit by sticking to the rule of thirds. Move the skier and outcropping frame left and you're money!!!

^^^ Do you mean like this? (this is the original orientation) The only reason I didn't post this shot is because I wasn't super happy with the right side of the image... I skied down a little too far to get a great backdrop. I still like the shot though.

Steve, I like the original much better. The right side works for me since its kinda just falls off into nothing making me wonder what the landing will look like. Well done.

Great shots, never skied Loveland, looks a lot like the back bowls at Vail.

Save some snow for spring break. Hey don't rule out a 70-200 F/4L without IS. They can be found used at pretty reasonable prices.

Enjoy the rest of the season and post some more.

^^^ Yep, I have considered it. Its a little too costly right now, and I really don't like the longer lens (actual size) for my set up right now. I'm looking into a couple of other options currently.... but the 70-200 is always in the back of my mind.
