These are from last Saturday (2/13) at Miami's alumni game, and were taken with either my 70-200 F2.8 or 100-400 F4.5-5.6 and hand held; also the picture style was set to standard, IMO they seem a little over saturation so I’ve set it to neutral

1) F5, 1/1000, iso800, 200mm

Nice shots but like already said a couple are underexposed.

Have you used any noise reduction? the high iso images look pretty clean

I see your also using the 1dmk11 how do you think they compare? I use the mk11 and 50D and have had my eye on the 7D but still deciding on the 7D or a 1dmk3.

Cheers
Daniel

Good looking shots. I like the 3rd one the most. Is there a difference in the ISO in the mark II vs the mark IIn?

It's nice to see that there are some parts of the country without snow on the ground. I think the images could stand to have their exposure bumped slightly, which is easily done post processing..

rpearce, I dont think there is a difference in the ISO between the two but high ISO's start to get noisy. I can compare the 1dmk2 to the 50D and they are much of a muchness noise wise but the mk2 still produces better images.
Scott yep my preference is the mk3, but you cant ignore the stuff people are getting with the 7D and its still quite a bit cheaper than a second hand mk3 around $500-$1000 in Oz depending on condition.

Daniel, I am considering the 7D as a backup body, not to sure about full-frame though, and there seems to be focusing issues with them already. From what I am reading all over the net and forum, you have to really "tweak" the settings to get usuable results.

Oops, left out the 5d and 1ds here..don't want to get jumped on for 1.6 vs full-frames...lol

Nice shots...how far were you from the action? Or did you have to crop much?

Wouldnt read to much into the focus problems that people have (Im assuming you mean the 7D) from what I hear it has usually been the users fault, but once they have worked out how to use it they have been fine. Dont think canon would bring out a whole new system in such an important camera for them with any major issues.

As far as the full frames go well just look at the shots people are getting they look great, but just not really suitable for sport, if the 5d was a bit quicker with the 7d's focus system I would buy one in a second. I was realy hoping the 7d would have a 1.3 or full frame sensor.

I wanted to get a good exposure of batter & runner without over exposing the background and without doing much local editing, seems it did not work out to well

I did use the PS raw editor noise reduction on some of the shot from the same day but I can’t recall if I used it on any of these ones.

This was the first use of my 7D. I did rent one over the winter holiday. And found for me it generally performed better that my 1DmIIn in areas of autofocus, color dynamics, and ISO range. But your result may very. I’ve shot two baseball game and one day the local wake park. So far the focus does seem a bit softer but I don’t know if that is the camera or from me using high F-stop/wider DOF or both.

As for comparing and why I got the 7D over the 1dmk3 or 1dmk4: it was weight, depreciation cost/lifespan, value of results to cost, and reputation of 1dm3 autofocus.

I’m not sure what the differences are in the two cameras. I do not recall ISO being one of the improvements, but what I do recall was that the 1DmII seem to have a high rate of shutter failures Canon denied that it was a problem. The 1DmIIn may have been more about restoring consumer confidence

It’s nice now to have snow too.

Did not do a lot of cropping, I was setting about 6 row above the dugout at 3rd base, so maybe 70-80 feet to home
