So I found out last minute about AF1 landing this evening so I knew I had to give it a go, even if it was at night. I cranked the ISO to 6400 on my mkIII and went to town. Overall I'm very pleased, the pictures are noisy but look pretty good in my opinion for being shot at 1/80 with my 135L wide open. Here is one of the better ones I think, for the full gallery (including at shot of SAM29000 near the cargo terminal) go here http://deadpass.com/af1 (external link)

Oh and this was only my second time shooting aviation shots, the first being Monday.

pretty big responsibility for a 2nd time shooting, especially at night!

Equipment: Canon PowerShot A650IS (semi retired) and Canon Powershot G10 (primary) and Rebel XT 350D w/18-55mm kit lens and Quanterey 18-200mm-- www.youtube.com/alexander1485 (external link) (has links to some of my pictures on the main page)

Ya know, I thought about that as I was about the pull the trigger. I had to go for it, I don't figure I'll get many chances to shoot air force one.

I haven't had the chance but then I don't really go to airports shooting planes though.

When I shot earlier in the week I was thinking the same thing, until I few rare planes came in. It's like fishing. Kinda boring and frustrating, but when you get that monster it's worth it. I think it helps that I have really liked planes for a long time.

Everything considered, that's a pretty good shot of it.

You never know. We got the memo last week at work that the boss wants to go back to his "town hall" style of meetings with the American people. We were told to expect a busy spring & summer. So, I'm sure there will be several folks on here who get the chance to cover AF1 on an arrival or departure.

I was so pissed that yesterday AF1 flew right over my house landing at Buckley AFB. I knew what time it would be in the area and I had the camera all set up and ready and then the phone rings... A freaking business call and I miss it. My daughter who was walking home from school asks me, "Daddy, did you see that HUGE jet that flew over? I mean it was just right there and HUGE! It had four engines on it too and it was blue on top."

ARRRRRHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGGRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well at least she saw it.

Nice capture!

haha, I couldn't believe I was able to get that close, however this was after Obama's motorcade had moved on. I just finished processing the pictures from takeoff today, it was a dull, overcast day in the valley for sure. Here is the thread I made for the takeoff today https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=829486

All things considered:

Not a bad result! :D
