Hey everyone,

Well baseball season is near and this season I am planning on working a lot harder to get great pictures while attending many events during the season. With that being said, I want to start off by showing some examples of images I took last season that I put into this short slideshow/video portfolio. I am planning on adding more images once I get the time to sift through everything.
(For some reason, the quality of the images are not coming out very well after I uploaded the video to YouTube. To make the images a little more clear, watch it in 360p instead of 480p)

I would love to hear everyones opinion and C&C.

Thanks for the help in advance,
Justin

I have always wondered how you number the photos. How is it done?

Justin,

I looked at the video and saw your photos in 360. You were right about changing it. They came out so much clearer. As for your photos you have a good eye for content, the only thing I would have to say about your photos is the backround is too distracting. You should be shooting 2.8 to get the shallowest depth of field. You want the player to stand out against the backround, not blend in.

How did you number them then post the photo below? Did you host the photos elsewhere? Type in #1 and then add the link below the number? Did you host the photos here? If so, how did you get the numbers to post above the photo?

I typed in, #1, then pasted the link to the image underneath it.

jtope - they are great. The youtube does nothing for these photos. It takes away how great they are.

Cover: Not really feeling the net. Nor the fact that it is just warmups and nothing is happening. I also would have positioned myself to not get that railing(?) in the picture. Wide pictures can work but you really need to either have some kind of pattern going on or something genuinely unique. This just seems like a snapshot from the stands.

#1 Its a good shot of the pitcher. I like his position, your angle to his position, and the lighting. However, the background is horrible. You really need to be aware of your backgrounds when youre taking pictures. Its probably the MOST overlooked (but one of the most impactful) aspects of photography.

#2 Any way you can get lower? The capture isnt too bad by itself but to me it looks like he just hit a foul ball or something. The picture just doesnt have anything that draws you into it. It also has a horrible background but it doesnt look like there is much you can do about that.

#3 Much better than your other pitcher picture overall. Id dodge the face some to lighten it up a little.

#4 EXACTLY what I was looking for in #2. Youre lower, youve got a much more interesting subject, and since the background is full of more people, its actually less distracting than half-empty seats.

#5 Yep...Thats a picture of a catcher...Are we supposed to be interested in it for some reason? What story is that supposed you tell? If youre taking pictures to sell to people that play, this very well may sell but I CC from a photojournalistic point of view.

#6 A lot like #2 really. Just not much there. A blank expression just makes it seem like he struck out (despite whether he actually did)

#7 Yep...Thats a first baseman...See #5

#8 Just not much going on here...
