I love how it feels, how its made right off the bat. I have a Tamron 28-75 2.8 and only got this lens because sometimes, just sometimes, I wish I had a tad more reach and its also just a little wider for my 5D.

I just snapped off a few shots on my mannequin while I was home for lunch. I'll do more tonight, but it almost looks like my Tamy is sharper. I took shots at 28 mm on the Tamy and 75 mm on the Tamy. Then I put on the 24-105 and took shots at 24 and 105. Tonight I will do both lens at 28 and both at 75. But I could see the hair was sharper with the Tamron lens.

I hope I'm mistaken. I really want the extra reach, and oh the build!!

Mine should be here by Monday. I'm curious to see what you think of the lens.

I don't use mine on a full frame, but on my 7D my 24-105 is sharp as can be, literally! I think it surpasses my 70-200 at certain focal lengths in sharpness (wide open, for example). Hope it works out for you though!

The build is incredible though, right? I came form a 17-85 and the difference is... Insane.

I upgraded to mine from a 28-135mm IS USM (and owned a 17-85mm IS USM just prior to that) and couldn't be happier so far. I find the pictures to be very sharp in comparison to both of the other lenses, but the biggest improvements were color and contrast. It simply produces better images. You can pixel peep if you feel the need and find a sharper lens, but I'll keep my 24-105L! I've owned a 28-70mm f/2.8L and a 70-200mm f/4L IS, and thought this lens was right for me in terms of cost and IQ. The other L's were superb lenses, but just didn't suit what I needed. These L's cost too much to leave you wanting something different, and the 24-105L covers my needs.

I've also had a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 in the past, and it took pretty nice images. I didn't care for the opposite direction zoom ring, and those are kinda' noisy lenses! Indoors, somebody in the room almost always turned their head to see what they had heard.

I can't wait to get home and play with it some more. I have a family shoot of 4 tomorrow that I'm hoping to use it on.

The 24-105 is my most used lens on my 5d. I shoot everything from landscapes, panos and architecture to portraits and street candids with it. Hope your shoot goes well!

I just got the 24-105mm recently. I absolutely love the lens. I like the range of reach I had with my 17-85mm better, but the picture quality is much better!

Great lens. Noticeable barrel distortion (and vignetting near wide open) at 24mm, but superb sharpness and contrast across the board. Mine's my "travel lens" and it has never let me down. Bring a prime if you worry about moving subjects in low light or need more shallow DOF.

I wouldn't doubt the Tamron is sharper. Taaron lenses have great optics, where they tend to lack is autofocus and IS IMO. Looking forward to your comparisons!

Got mine from eBay through bing from a reputable company. Paid like $905 after my bing for it, brand new. I also won a $25 gas card through resellerratings.com for reviewing who I bought it from! Win win :)

Picked up mine on the FM boards. New and unused, in a retail box with all included items present. Great transaction and got it for the lowest price I've seen one go for in a while. Lower even than the usual $825 some of the used kit lens models go for.

So I had the shoot yesterday. I'm really disappointed in it. The pix are soft, probably not noticeable to anyone but me. It was used in my studio, on my tripod, did focus fast, but I have no doubt that my Tamron takes sharper pix. I don't know, I'm on the fence as to whether to take it back or not. I'd have to ship it back to B&H, but I'm not keeping something that costs that much and disappoints me. I wish I had another shoot, maybe I can bribe someone to come over for a while, lol! I'd read so much about this lens that I really never thought it would be so soft.

If you're not happy with it, send it in for an exchange. Its a very versatile lens, sharp, with good colors and contrast. The little bit of barrel distortion at wide open is easily fixable. I bought mine after having a Tamron 28-75 for while. Sure, the Tamron was sharp, but there's more to a lens than just simple sharpness...I found the build to be terrible, it had bad zoom creep, and was very noisy.

Did you have the AF on or off on your tripod?
