I bought a bran new Energizer CH15MN 15 Min Charger and 2 sets of bran new batts to got with it.
Well they don't last for squat...few frames and they are dead as a door knob!! I don't get it??
From all I read the rechargeable batts were supposed to last longer than regular batts!
Well it's just the opposite for me.
What could I possibly be doing wrong??

Forget the 15 minute charger, because it doesn't fully charge the batteries. A charger that fully charges AA batteries usally takes six hours or so. Eneloops are some of the best batteries out there right now. However, I have some precharged/rechargable Duracells that seem to do just as well. With the right batteries and charger, your SX20 will give you a lot per charge, but as you can see, with a fast charger and cheap batteries it will not.

You aren't....the batteries are. There has been lots of discussion on the subject, but it appears that the higher the rating on the batteries, the less life they give in camera. I have several sets of 2500mah rechargeables that last forever in the flash units...but slip them in the camera and they are flat in seconds....at least according to the camera. Toss them from the camera to the flash and they perform just fine.

Sanyo Eneloop batteries last well....and Rayovac low discharge batteries do also. Seems the 1800-2000mah batteries outlast the big guns in cameras.

get batteries that are "low self discharge"

I've been through this myself. I'm currently using accuevolution 2200mah batteries and their great

it may be wise to invest in a quality charger as well

It's not a knock-off.....genuine Energizer Charger.
Maybe it being a quick charger does have something to do with it?

I have Energizer (2450 mAh), Camelion (2600 mAh), and Sanyo Eneloop Rechargeable Batteries (external link) (2000 mAh) and Sanyo Eneloop has the lowest self discharge rate. Next is Camelion. I don't know why but my Energizer batteries have terribly high self discharge rate.

my standard charger take 24 hours to recharge 2600 mAh batteries. Also I have a 5 hour charger. I'm kind of worried about standard charger coz both charger and batteries get heat up.

So the bottom line is......
I need a lower mAh batt and a longer charger for this rechargeable bit to work for me?

I'm using Eneloops (rotated with Imedions) with my SX20 and they last me for an entire shoot (approx 100 shots).

I usually just do a quick charge (i have an 1-hr energizer and MAHA charger) before I leave for my shoot and just bring the second set (which never gets used) as a backup.

I cant understand why everyone has so much trouble with batteries. I have 2500mah energizer batteries in my sx20, and i have taken up to 150 shots without going flat, and this is over about a month, taking pics every weekend. These are cheap, average rechargable batteries. Maybe it is cause i dont take a lot of time preparing for the shot, i dont know, but ive never lost a shot because of battery problems. My charger takes about 8 hours to charge the batteries.

^^ Your answer. Over the years of experimenting with rechargable batteries in cameras and amateur radio equipment I have found that the charger is more important than the battery. Fast chargers never seem to get batteries charged to full capacity.
