Hi
I am thinking of purchasing a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM which is in a "white box". I presume that it was from a kit with a 5dMK2, but thats just a guess.
In the UK the usual price is approx £920-00, but this "white box" lense is about £ 699-00 with postage.
(BTW I have 100% confidence in the seller as he sells a lot on all photography forums here in the UK).

Is this a good buy, and does the white box make such a difference with re selling, should it come to it in future?
Is a proper Canon box worth the extra £ 220-00,I guess not?

Has anyone here bought "white box" lenses before. If so were you happy with the purchase, or is there a case for spending the extra money on the real Canon boxed version?
Thanks for advice.
Ben

My 24-105 came in a white box, split from an original 5D kit. I paid £529 before the prices went through the roof and even then it was a good saving.

if the seller is who i think it is, just buy the lens. You won't have any problems.

I bought my 24-105 in a white box from Park Camera's. It was confirmed as brand new and from a kit. I would have liked the Canon box, but as you say, it costs over £200 more and I really thought it wasn't worth the extra. I doubt that I will sell the lens anytime soon, but if I do, I don't think I will lose £200 for not having the Canon box. I see that Park are selling their white box lens for £750, so not such a good price, but they are a really top company to deal with and they always provide a good next day delivery. Also, they are within reach of you if you wanted to visit their shop!

Hi Ian,
Yes I use Park quite often as they are about an hours drive or so.
Now do I pay £50-00 extra and get it in my hands straight away, or do I save £ 50-00 by sending off to the seller, (who I have total faith in as he is a top seller here), and get it the next day or so?

I suppose that if there is a problem with the lense, not too likley I know, I can just ring up the shop and explain etc.
I could rellly do with this lense now as im off to a double 90th bithday, and I have totally the wrong lenses :-( (Im not a pro, just for me and family).
I dont know how ive done without one of this length for so long.
Thanks again!

I have no affiliation with Park, but I have bought 4 DSLR's and 4 L lenses, flashguns etc from them and never had any problems. Always following day delivery. I live in East Sussex, so I know I can get to them within an hour if I needed to. For me, this gives some peace of mind and I felt it worth the extra money, but £50 is a reasonable amount of money.
The 24-105 is a great general walkabout lens on the 5DMK2 and it was my favourite on the 40D too!
