Here are a few shots that I have processed so far. These were shot with my 7D and 70-200 f/4 at iso ranges 1250 - 3200. Again just a lowly spectator hanging my camera out over the track. I ask only because they seem a bit noisy. That caught my eye a bit too. I'd be curious to see what the setup is like. I'm not saying you shouldn't be doing that, but I can see some glove-wearing spectator dropping a camera (or anything, really) onto the track quite easily.
