Thanks guys.. yes, actually I did have issues with dew (actually fog) the first night.. I had a thunderstorm roll through before I got there and it made the air very moist. I ended up getting very little the first night because of it. The second night, it was so cold that my intervelometer was dying, which I strapped a disposable hand warmer to it, to keep it alive during the shooting.

Handwarmers work pretty well to keep the lens temperature warm enough, but I didn't have that particular issue here.

They're small, so you can throw a couple in your bag for whenever you might need em.

Excellent shots guys! I've learnt not to use a cheapo UV filter to avoid unnecessary stray flares on your pics!

I love the PP on this. What PP did you use?

During winter my camera and lenses often spend several hours in blistering cold(down to -30C, though normally around -10...-20C) with no ill effects... in fact they do so every time I leave the house (I never, ever leave my camera home, no matter where i go :P).
Should I be worried about my equipment eventually dieing from the cold? AFAIK it's not the cold that kills equipment, but rather rapidly heating and freezing... which is something my things go through too. >.>
Well nothings broken so far so atleast yay for that, then.

I don't work in the extreme colds that much, but I did work for several years along the gulf coast, with very high humidity and of course the reverse hot-cold issue. Many times having lens fog up going from air conditioned area to outdoors. I got used to acclimating my gear as much as possible. You probably want to do the same. Try going from your house, to the car and then into your trunk. Basically try and "ease" your camera from one extreme to the other. You can also try using a plastic bag around your gear to act a sort of hot box, to help.

It's definitely not going to break your gear, but any time moisture forms inside the camera or lens, it's not a good thing, for sure. It's not the end of the world, but it makes it more prone to mildew down the road.

Well I use my camera bag to slow down the rapid heating process thing when I get home, during winter anyway... though strangely enough, moisture doesn't seem to condense on my camera as much as one would think... especially considering I live in a coastal city. I was more concerned about the properties of glass changing with temperature - how much does glass expand and contract exactly, when going from say -20C...-30C to around +20 or so?

Ah, gotcha... that I'm not sure about at all. I've never heard of any issues arising from expansion/contraction, but who knows!

I've been in the midst of a project organizing my archival library, and came across these shots of Portland, OR streets in the "blue hour" in June of '08 -- it's fun working with a tripod on city streets:)!

The 24-105 was handy in letting me get "closer" to the intersection!

Tony, it feels like you're hanging out of the side of a car with those shots, heheeh...

Jeremy, I agree... I like that shot a lot. I love the cold machinery feel to it.
