Sweet shot Matt! I love the comp here.

I have to upgrade to a bette camera. :(

Inspeqtor wrote in post #17059336 (external link)
You could not do a similar shot with your 7D?

ptcanon3ti wrote in post #17059375 (external link)
Not like that Charels. I just don't have the ability to make the 7D do high iso dark sky shots look acceptable. :(

Would a shot like that be at all possible with my 60D then or not?

I'm definitely the wrong one to ask Charles. I'm feeling pretty down about this thing right now.

Paul, I'm not sure what exactly the issue may be, but I promise you're going to resolve this, and have a "Eureka!" moment where it will all come together and you'll have some awesome results. The 7D can take great night shots - go up to the "Search this Thread" tab na d enter "7D" then scroll through the images posted on this thread shot with a 7D - some amazing shots. Email me one of your RAW files in question and I'll be happy to take a look. I'm going to put the 14 on my 7 D tonight and see what I can get for you, then compare settings. Hang in there man - we'll get you sorted out!

Thank you for your kindness Ken....i'm blown away by it actually.

I just read this as I was getting ready to put the Rok 14 in the classifieds for sale. Maybe I'll wait a day or 2.

I'm not having issues with general night shots that I can set the ISO low on and do a long exposure. I know you've seen my flickr already, where I have a lot of night shots.

It's the night sky for stars where I just can't do it. ISO 1600 and up destroys my images...Maybe I just don't have the knack for the night sky...or maybe my camera is the culprit...or maybe I can't work this manual lens. OR maybe a combination of all the above.

I was SO looking forward to the Rok...but now I'm completely turned off to it. I even have difficulty getting proper exposures during broad daylight on a tripod. :( Cant see anything on the screen in manual mode using live view. So the camera has to be switched to Av mode so the subject is visible (screen brightens up)...focus is achieved. Then I switch back to manual mode for SS adjustment until the exposure scale on the camera reads correct. Take the shot and its underexposed and soft. :(

Paul, have you tried shooting that Rok 14 in Av mode? It ought work just fine. Maybe not for night images, but try a few daylight shots in Av and let us know how it goes.

Don't toss that lens just yet!

No I haven't. I just don't think of it. I'll go try it now.

All with A7s 55 F/1.8 wide open. No processing (other than what flickr does to them). Straight ARW to JPEG.
