I've based more than one lens purchase on your reviews Jojo...You do an excellent job and I respect your unbiased opinion.....I'd love to see you get your hands on some of these...;)
EX85 vs 85L
17-50 os vs 17-55 IS
Maybe a re-do of the EX 50/1.4 using a "good" (perhaps mine?) copy of the EX vs the 50L
Anyways....just thinking out loud

+1

Your reviews are very good Jojo

I was saving for the 85L but count me in for the 85 f1.4 too, I pray it's around $700-800

Reading the article on DPR, the guy stated the prices are high, because of the high quality, they are meant for pro's...I read that as..... they won't be cheap....I'm thinking $1499 list, $1199 street...maybe?

Any idea to when they'll be available? I read the press release, but can't find a date.

From the press release (external link) on their website:

All of the lenses will available for purchase this spring, and will be available in Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Sony and Pentax mounts.

This press release really ticks me off. I need a 70-200 on Saturday. I had decided to go pickup the Sigma 70-200 this week, planning to get it Friday. Now I am having second thoughts.

At least I know now, unlike when I purchased the 50D right before the 7D was announced.

Rent it then..

Or buy a used copy and resell it when the OS is available

Another big difference for me is warranty. Here in canada sigma EX lenses have a 10 year warranty - thats a heck of a difference.

Price guessing eh... lets see

85 - $800
8-16 - $650
70-200 - $1000
50-500 - $1200
17-50 - $650

Well... I got one wrong already...

Oh, there are plenty of chances still left on the board to be a winner! :p Think positive (and cheap).

Well, $1600 is the same as a 100-400, so its not absurdly expensive, and if the 50-500 can deliver equal or better performance than the 100-400 it could still be a winner...

I'm still considering it..id only be out a few hundred to get it..and some parts of it really appeal to me...

I think they'll be hard pressed to sell them at $1600 for long, even with 4 stop OS and the extra range, most folks will prefer the OEM glass for sure.....get an L or a Sigma......hmm...Guess we'll have to wait and see how it performs (especially the AF on Canon bodies)

I went with a couple of Sigmas over L's and haven't regreted it . But I think the Bigma II and Dust Pumper are both overpriced at this point :(.
