OS is not worth $1000.
But improved optics are worth.

But still, someone, by now, should have chimed in and said they needed to send it back. 7D | 300D | G1X | Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 | EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 | EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro | EF 85mm f/1.8 | 70-200 f/2.8L MkII -- flickr

Really? Why would I get this over the Canon MkI? Once B&H listed it I believe it and I'm sicken. Sigma now knows they are awesome and has priced their stuff accordingly. Well... It is still cheaper than the Canon mk1 2. I suspect it's optics will be better as the 70-200 HSM II was close if not the same already 3. Since Canon released the MK II, they will sometime in the near future stop making the mk1... then you either buy the MkII or get the sigma =) Or I buy a MkI used. I can't imagine the optics are THAT much better. Sigma has always been pretty awesome IMO but at a competetive price you may have to send a lens back. I've been lucky based on stories I read but now, gosh. Just 'cause the MkII went up Sigma seems to figure they can. Last Shot Photography
