Canon should enable storing/retrieving camera settings to/from the CF card

There are now a fair amount of settings to adjust in current cameras. My 7D has literally dozens of them. Just like it's always good to have a back up of the OS of your computer, there should be a way to store and retrieve settings for future use or after an update or service of the camera. For example, my 7D has been twice with Canon for calibration of a couple of zooms. Everytime I get it back, all the settings are set to default and I need to manually re-enter everything. (Luckily, after the first time, I learnt to write them down in advance!) Canon should enable storing/retrieving camera settings to/from a file in the CF card. Has anyone got around this issue in some clever way?

You have to move up to the 1D in order to do that. However, you then lose the instant access to saved settings that you have with the 7D. If you think the 7D is bad with settings, try out the 1D for a day. Up to 5 WB settings, 3 banks of CF settings, and more CF settings overalll....
