Hi all,
I went to a local zoo today to try out my new Bigma for the first time. The weather turned out to be overcast and rainy which was disapointing as I know this lens needs lots of light. These are what I managed to get, all handheld as the weather forecast predicted a bright day and I left the tripod at home....

Great shots, Dave. Really nicely done. I'd be curious of your 'keeper rate' with the Bigma as well. It sounds like you need to pick up a monopod to help you avoid forgetting your tripod.

Hi,
a monopod is a good idea and something I will look into. As for keeper rate, I took less than 60 shots all day....I think the exact figure was 58. I took more of the tiger than anything else, probably about 25 shots. Most of those were ok, but the BG was more of an issue on some of them. I struggled more with the leopard as the light had got even worse by the time I got to him, you can see from the EXIF that the shutterspeed was not good for hand holding! Here is another similar tiger shot from the same batch. As I said before, considering the weather I thought the Bigma did very well and in brighter conditions it would have produced even better results I would have thought.

Some beautiful shots. I especially like 1 - screams a large canvas print to dominate a wall.

The tigers are amazing, the background bokeh and coloring on the head shots is just perfect.
