Hi all. My wife breeds mice and I often thought some of the prettier youngsters would make great studio-type subjects, so I finally got around to setting up the lights and giving it a try. I used a 580EX with a home-made 8"x12" softbox just to the right of the camera, and a bare flash from behind and to the left, to give a "hair light". I was pleased with the results. Here are the best efforts.

Gorgeous! I love the "rex" type coats... stunning! I just adore rodents.

I must say, I've never seen such good looking mice. I was also going to comment on their rex coats, beautiful! That second guy (or gal) is adorable! I used to have two pet mice back when; almost makes me want another. Very nice shots, BTW!

When I was in college, I raised mice for my own snake, and just loved inbreeding for specific characteristics. I never got a rex coat, but I got silkies, long hairs, and Siamese, although for some reason, I could not keep my Siamese types alive for longer than a few weeks. Mice are fun, but I LOVE rats and hope my son shows interest in them at some point so I can have an excuse to get another! I love the detail you were able to get on the black one's fur. Very nicely exposed!

Very pretty. I had mice as pets as a kid. They were great.
