I haven't been able to get out much this winter and I've only seen one Saw-whet and 1 Long-eared owl so I've been going through some old images.
During the winter of 2004-2005 we had a GGO eruption in Ottawa. Back then I was using a Canon AE-01, a 350mm lens and ISO 400 film. Needless to say I didn't get any of the type of photos that people who had digital equipment at the time were capable of taking.
After a rather unsuccessful morning out looking for owls I was heading home during a bad snow storm when I noticed a bird on a fence post. It took me about 15 minutes to gradually approach it close enough to take this photo. The blowing snow made getting a good shot difficult. In addition I had a some colour changes in the film which caused a reddish hue over part of the bird and BG. It took quite a bit of post processing to correct. I now see that I missed a couple of spots along the border of the white BG.
Anyway I do like this image for the eye contact.
