I know I am going to get a lot of flack for the gun stuff. I always seem to when I post stuff like this. So besides that. What do you think? I just got me new soft box and my wife and her friend were models for the night.

1, 2, and 5 work ok for me. Not that I have a lot of relevant experience, but 3 just doesn't look like someone contemplating suicide. 4 doesn't make a lot of sense to me... how to reconcile the expression of the lady at left with her situation? 6: again, hard to imagine how the lady at the back is relating to the person at the camera position. She's holding up the belt but in a very weak grip. Perhaps that ties in with her standing in very close to the other lady, which is more suggestive of hanging/choking than using the belt simply as a restraint. Maybe I just can't appreciate all the implications...? :-)

I like the facial expression in #1... certain intensity there. #2 is suitably cold and indifferent.

Cheers,
Tony

Thanks for the input. I didnt want them being to rough with each other which is why number 6 she isnt choking her hard with the belt. Control isnt always a forceful thing. The point of that picture was to show that the woman in the back was in control and the woman in front has accepted the fact that she is owned. 4 was just a fun shot.

Number 3 is my absolute favorite from the night. I am not sure if its the facial expression or the calm before the storm feeling. I just really dig that shot.

I did notice that as they got more comfortable with the camera the goofier the shot got.

I like your daring subject matter, and more so, your willingness to put them up here for critique.

Everything Tony says seemed spot on to me. I'd like to say that #1 was my favorite, mostly due to the expression of defiance with a bit of underlying panic, but also that the "shooter" is anonymously off screen, allowing them to represent more of a generalized "violence" entity.

Keep up the good (and daring) work!

Thanks. Its hard to find models that want to do more daring stuff. Most of them just want to poke their butt out and look like every other model.

I am lucky in that my wife even though she HATES being in front of the camera is willing to pose from time to time. She is the one with the sleeve tattoos.

These are great, I like the style and well done for posting them! Also, very cool of your wife and her friend to model for these. I think they did better than the average model would even if you convinced her to try these sorts of shots. Also, i agree with the above comments regarding composition, however I see why you like #3. Lighting and expression looks perfect to me.

I hate to be picky with something like this, but I'd move the white balance a little towards the colder/less pink side. Tiny bit colder that Lightroom "auto" worked well when I tried it.

Here's a very quick edit, if you think it's too cold maybe something in between would work. Up to you =)

EDIT: If I keep doing this I'll end up with a title saying "will try to make your images look colder and more dramatic"

I dig it.

I have actually decided that 1, 2, and 3 will be turned into large prints

right you are - there is no besides that in my world. As a gun owner, I think it's irresponsible to portray gun usage in such a way. The rights of gun owners are under attack everywhere and stuff like this doesn't help.

It's offensive on several differnt levels. I am not a believer in the 'art for art's sake' arguments.

I'm surprised that these are still up given the slightly dark subject matter. However, they show a great imagination and I thank the op for allowing me the opportunity to view them. Carry on the offbeat work.

Thanks. I didnt think there was an issue with darker subject matter. Which is why I wasnt worried about posting it. But I am glad you got to see it also. AND I will keep up the off beat work lol.

Come on. Seriously?

They're staged photos. It's art.

[As an aside, surely it's the people who shoot each other that are placing the scrutiny on gun owners...not photographers?]

Very well handled.

As for my critique; 1 and 2 are really striking. Personally, I'm not really into the style/general concept but those first 2 are really well executed (pun very much intended!). The rest don't share that same attention grabbing energy...

I personally don't see why they would be taken down. It's not as if it's anything to do with snuff movies or images.
