Mine was back in '86. I was on my lunch break and was on top of the roof of the warehouse that I worked, all set to take some photos of the space shuttle Challenger lift off. Watching it through my viewfinder when I saw it split into different smoke trails. I sat there too dumbfounded and shocked to even take the photo. I stood there staring for a good while before I realized that I didn't even take the shot.

I think thats understandable considering what you were witnessing.

Yeah, I'll never forget that. I remember the announcers saying something to the effect of: "We don't want to speculate on the fate of the crew..." and I'm thinking: "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??? IT FREAKING BLEW UP!!!"

I was standing in line trying to get enrolled for the winter term, and was utterly disgusted by the way my fellow students reacted to the way the staff at admissions was distracted by the television they had rolled out so they could let everyone know what was going on and keep up with the events themselves. I remember thinking I should probably just go home, if I stayed there I was going to maime the next a-hole that voiced their impatience. It was one of those moments that just made you feel that your problems were kind of insignificant in comparison to the sorrow of an entire planet.

It still creeps me out to this day when I hear the audio with Mission Control in Houston continuing for a minute as though things are normal, pauses and then says "We've had a major malfunction..."

I remember being utterly stunned and immobile.

I remember that day too. I m might be dating myself as being rather young, but I was in Elementary school. I remember I was in the Principals office (don't ask!) when I heard the secretary come on the PA, crying and telling us all what happened, like we had ANY understanding of the event.

Fast forward a few years, and I'm in bed sleeping, when my wife comes home and wakes me up with "The space shuttle blew up!" and I was like.. Yeah, hon, I know, I remember. And she was like, "no, it happened again!".

Surreal Two, within my lifetime. :/

Wow I'm thinking that's one of, if not THE, best eagle shot I've ever seen. Sure it's not in-your-face close but this shot is landscape and wildlife combined in one.

I would LOVE a chance to get down that way and shoot some horses and wild stallions, etc. Before they're gone. :(

Here's that Eagle shot I mentioned in the original post. I'm really not happy with it, but, I did the best I could given the time, the gear and the conditions. It's about 60% cropped, as I was REALLY far away, and it was a non IS hand held. :(

I was shooting a college basketball game last week. I got into position to get ready for the tip-off, composed, focused, had my finger on the shutter button and was so totally focused on being ready for the shot that I didn't notice a woman was going to walk right between me and the players at just the right moment to ruin the shot.

Show photo - or it didn't happen - hahaha
