Cool. But Randy was close. You used a piece of glass. How'd you get rid of the reflections? CPL?

recrisp wrote in post #9676730 (external link)

That's exactly what I figured he did, used a polarizing filter to get rid of the glare, but, I mentioned glass, and evidently it's not that. :)

Randy

Correct! I missed your first post Randy. It's on glass and CPL to remove the shadow. I also bounced my flash off of a green surface.

This is a wild guess: The screw was photographed separately while screwed into wood. Attention was paid to minimal DOF with the head being in focus. The carpet was photographed with the same depth of field. Both images were blended with the screw on top, toned green, and the screw shadow burned in. The shadow has a slight burnt orange quality when I believe a deeper darker green would be normally rendered. There may be some natural color shift in a shadow due to ambient light.

I'm glad it was that because otherwise you would've had to be magic!
Good job on that too, I would've not thought to take that shot.

Surely it would have been fairly easy to suspend it with fishing line and the clone it out?

This would have been a lot more work. No place to hang the line from plus the hassle of cloning it out. I am not a big clone'r of things out :D Not only that when shooting macro you have such a small DOF to try and focus on a hanging screw that would most likely be moving from the wind would be challenging.

With the screw and green lighting, 2 shots. This was the better composition of the 2.
